Blue Period (19)

Yaguchi Hachiko discovered the joy of painting during his sophomore year of high school and, after immense effort, was accepted into the Tokyo University of the Arts. While studying at the university, through a great deal of trial and error and experiences outside the campus, he gradually resolved to become an “artist.” Then, in the spring of his third year, Hachiko and his classmates set out on the university’s traditional “Antique Art Research Trip” (commonly known as “Kobiken”), a field trip to study ancient art by visiting Buddhist temples and gardens in Kyoto and Nara. To be honest, Hachiko didn’t really understand what “antique art” meant—so what would he learn in these ancient capitals? Hachiko is also bewildered by the dynamics within the Kobiken travel group. Bitter memories from the past weigh heavily on him. Through the passion and struggles of young men attending art school, this manga vividly captures the joys and anguish of those aspiring to express themselves— a groundbreaking art-themed coming-of-age manga like no other—the latest volume is now available!!
